So it seems Cherie is in a bit of a pickle. Like i said i was going to do yesterday, i woke up this morning and wrote out my two weeks notice. Well i got to work went to the office but my manager ignored my knock...so i was like "meh, ill do it later" so i went to work. It was a good day, surpringly. The waitresses in day are so great and always tell me how great a jogb i do. So i was in a good mood. Well one of hte waitresses Kim, i talked abotu her in my first entry i believe, well she was talkin about me almost being 19 and becoming a server. But i told her i am working at a camp this summer so wont be working at Reds anymore. Well she started to talk about training me right away for server and i would get so much tips and such. At first i thought hmmm i need to get out of red robin bad. But then after a couple hours it started to seem less and less imparative that i give my notice today. My mom had said "sleep on it" so i dont make a brash mistake. Now im glad i waited a bit. Im so unsure though! Should i finally be rid of Red Robin or should i stick around and keep a couple server shifts a week and get the expierence. See that had been my whole plan in the beginning. Get the serving expierence then go to an upper end restaurant later. Well i thought my serving chance would never come since so many hostesses have gone up before i have!
So now i need all of your guys help!!! what should i do. I need advice. Here i am going to list he pros and cons...more for my own benefit i guess
Cons
~management is very harsh and hard to get along with quite a bit
~Hours are quite minimal
~The kitchen gives you crap as a server
~Lots of things seem to go wrong for servers
~Some people are just rude to you
Pros
~you dont have to deal with the Managers as much as hostesses
~Money is great!
~Other servers are tons of fun
~It is easier than hostessing or expoing and a lot more fun
~The expierence is great for the future
oh and also if i stay i can play in the Red Robin Softball tournament which i did last year and was sooo much fun! Red Robin teams from all over BC come and play. Great meeting people that we have so much in common with!
so there you have it! Please give me some advice. I need it badly. Should i stay on or not! blah...well thanks a bunch!

Hmm. If you leave, life might get a little easier. If you stay you make more money, gain new skills and expereince for the future - AND have stretching charater development in the seemingly tense situation. All of the above are useful - the most uncomfortable maybe the most useful. I will send up a prayer for you regarding this decision.

ReplyDeleteahhh, decisions, decisions. starting out by writing down the pros and cons was a good thing (something i do a lot of). my advice to you? don't run away from something just because it is uncomfortable. i have the tendancy to do the same thing. and yet i've learned, especially in this past year of so many changes, that just because being in a certain situation feels sucky right now, that doesn't mean it's a bad thing. i agree with kathy in that it will develop your character if you stay. if you only go through life taking the easy way and ducking out whenever it gets rough, you will never experience the joy and triumph of accomplishing something great through perseverance. only you can make this decision. i too am praying for you.

ReplyDeletehmm i dont know what to tell you. i know how much you hate your job there and i also know how your superiors treat you, but on the other hand it sounds like this could be good for you. id say stick with it a little bit longer, get the server status and training, give that a go and if things dont improve then..id say quit. You'll always have starbucks to rely on, but youve come so far there..so get your serving and then see how life goes. you can do it!! love ya!

I've been a server for 13 years... not that I have any idea what the place you work at is like... there are a few truths about being a waitress:
ReplyDelete1. the money is better than most people think, I've averaged at least 10 bux an hour for a long long time, more than most people I know in their more "respectable career positions"
2. It's hard, sweaty work.
3. The cooks will ALWAYS treat waitresses like crap, it's like saying cats eat mice, it just is. If your easily offended or highly emotional, quit.
4. Some people are waitresses, some aren't - and 90% of that is based on how well you can take the rude customers and rotten kitchen attitudes without crying. If you cry, you might as well give it up.
